The most beautiful hotel - and a stunning experience

Don’t feel silly if, while pulling up to the Palazzo Hotel in Fourways, you mistake it for a resort along the Vegas strip. The valet will park your vehicle, the concierge will wheel away your luggage, and you’ll be ushered into the lap of 5-star luxury.

This venue is spectacular from top to bottom… marble countertops, majestic pillars and seasonal blooms flood the lobby as the impeccably dressed and well-mannered staff cater to your every need. The hotel is only a 15-minute drive from the business hub of Sandton, 40 minutes from OR Tambo International Airport and 20 minutes from Lanseria Airport. The award-winning Montecasino Entertainment Complex, there’s no lack of entertainment when you step out of the lavish venue.

Surrounded by gorgeously green manicured gardens, we’ll forgive you for forgetting that you’re in the bustling suburb Fourways. In fact, you won’t even hear the traffic or notice the construction on the main road as the soothing sounds bird chirps fill your ears. We highly recommend that you order a cocktail and settle down by the crystal-clear swimming pool – which also has private tented gazebos alongside it, so that you can book a soothing poolside massage.

The Palazzo offers world class facilities for both leisure and business travellers. There are four, flexible meeting spaces and event venues on offer that can accommodate up to 50 delegates. The Rosa room overlooks the gorgeous rose garden and is perfect for small events, special occasions and intimate functions for between 45 and 70 guests – depending on the style of set up.

To describe the rooms as extravagant would be putting it mildly. There are 246 exceptional rooms to choose from, and the suites are an absolute treat! Firstly, we were incredibly impressed that the windows in the suite open all the way. All the way, people! So, let those breezes in. Each Tuscan-style room has access to complimentary WiFi, a flat screen TV with DStv, in-room tea and coffee making facilities, as well as many other amazing amenities. There are smoking and wheelchair accessible rooms available on request. The beauty of the hotel stems into each and every room. All your needs have been meticulously thought of, and taken care of. And once you’ve climbed into that King-sized bed, well… good luck! You’ll never want to leave.

Magic at Medeo

The Palazzo’s flagship restaurant, Medeo is a treat for your senses. Headed up by Executive Chef Gareth Jordaan, the team at this incredible eatery are dedicated to creating plates of pure ecstasy. The restaurant itself is beautiful; it has low amber lighting and plush seating, giving it an intimate, cosy atmosphere. There are plenty of corners to hide in if you’re after some romance, as well as lovely deck area that lets you take in the twinkling fairylights that adron the garden.

The menu is inspired by Mediterranean flavours, and includes carefully selected South African and International wines as well as Tsogo Sun’s rare auction wines. Medeo offers al fresco and opulent indoor dining, and we highly recommended you pop out onto the deck for a sundowner before digging in.

We opted for the Sriracha Prawn salad for starters; cocktail and tempura prawns, served with a refreshing watermelon gel, feta cheese puree, avo and a chilli dressing. Full of flavour, yet still light. We also enjoyed the Cured, Smoked and Sous Vide Duck Breast, served with a tangy yuzu curd, pickled fennel and red cabbage. Tender, juicy… divine.

For mains, we happily tucked into the Agnolotti Pasta – perfect pasta pillows smothered in parmesan cream, tender and smoky braised beef short rib, roasted pine nuts and buffalo mozzarella. We also highly recommend trying the Oven Baked Duck – a beautifully tender leg served with shallots, mushrooms, green beans and pancetta in a sinfully good red wine sauce.

Sunday buffet lunches are also available on the last Sunday of each month, and High tea is served daily between 2pm and 5pm. Wine pairing evenings are hosted monthly in Rosa and the Palazzo now also has a special treat just for the ladies – three-course ladies’ lunches, partnering with leading brands, and incorporates presentations, giveaways and prizes!

Your stay at what has been dubbed ‘the most beautiful hotel’ in Joburg is not one you’re likely to forget… from the ease of checking in, to the delightfully fresh breakfast buffet on your last morning – it’s all designed to make you feel like a VIP – and by golly, you will!

A night at the Palazzo Hotel is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
