SA Celebs Conquer Campaign Collaborations
We appreciate a good collaboration, Hello Joburgers, and it deeply pleases us when some of our favourite local and international brands recognise the talent that decorates our country. That’s why we’ve taken a look at the incredible collaborations that have been announced this year so far, and have picked our Top 8.
1. Thando Thabethe and Cassper Nyovest for Ciroc
Everything about this campaign excited us. It made us want to toast to even the mildest of successes in our lives. Earlier this year, along with the launch of his album, Thuto, Cassper Nyovest toasted to his arrival with Ciroc by taking over their Instagram and basically making success look good. Enter Thando Thabethe in a knock-out red dress and signature red lipstick in June, and Ciroc had conquered all alcohol advertising campaigns.
2. Nomzamo Mbatha for L’Oreal
The international endorsements just keep rolling in for Mbatha, and we couldn’t be more proud. While we’re super obsessed with her fierce Puma campaign, it’s the afro-chic L’Oreal Hair campaign that gets a high five from us. Mbatha was announced as the Brand Advocate for L’Oreal Hair, and her new role was unveiled alongside several new products aimed at the treatment of natural and curlyhair.
3. Asanda Sizani for TopShop
Fashion Editor and Stylist, Asanda Sizani, is one of the first South African stylists to gain international traction. The humble level-headed editor is without a doubt one of South Africa’s best stylists, and in January, when TopShop saw their opportunity to collaborate with a South African stylist, it was a no brainer. The collaboration birthed a capsule collection, designed specifically for The SunMet.
4. Nandi Madida for Lux
Musician, actress and presenter, Nandi Madida is set to challenge the definition of beauty as she was announced as the new face of Lux. She follows in the footsteps of Basetsana Kumalo, Khanyi Dhlomo and Felicia Mabuza-Suttle. It’s a fitting position for Madida, as she herself is redefining the role of being a businesswoman in South Africa.5.
5. Langa Mngoma for Estee Lauder
This one was a surprising, yet perfect fit. Dr Langa Mngoma was seen as the first South African face of Estee Lauder at the beginning of the year. The ads were for Estee Lauder #HelloMatte campaign and captured Mngoma in her day-to-day life and discovering her new city, Johannesburg. There has to be something in the water in the Mngoma household, as Langa is also Nandi Madida’s sister, and both host their campaigns with elegance and grace.
6. Ayanda Thabethe for POND’s
In August this year, POND’s announced TV personality, Ayanda Thabethe as their new ambassador. Taking on being the face of their Perfect Colour Complex range, the model personality takes on the role as a busy woman looking to protect her skin from harsh environments. She is all of us in POND’s.
7. Toya Delazy for Cartoon Network
Last year it was revealed that Cartoon Network’s, Powerpuff Girls theme song wwould be written and performed by Toya Delazy. This year, Delazy broke the internet with the announcement that she’s to lend her voice to one of the new PPG characters. Not only is this a first for South Africans, but it’s a first for the brand itself as she plays the only Powerpuff Girl of colour. Make sure you catch the premiere of the all new Powerpuff Girls on 21 October.
8. Bonang Matheba for Cell C
Bonang has basically taken over our year in her pink stilettos, so of course, she ended up on our list. With her many campaigns, it’s her app that we have to give a hand to. Queen B seeks to reign over social media with emojis and her app. Although the public was split on the R60p/m app, the overall idea is a first for any SA celeb, and we’re sure celebs after her will be twitching for their own app.
